Canada and Mexico sign mutual trusted traders recognition arrangement

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) announced that it signed, on May 11, 2016, a Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA) with the Tax Administration of the United Mexican States (SAT) that allows both countries to recognize each other’s Trusted Trader members and facilitate border processes.

This arrangement means that both administrations will provide reciprocal benefits to members of the CBSA’s Partners in Protection and SAT’s Nuevo Esquema de Empresas Certificadas programs.

The CBSA and the SAT will now work towards implementation and a monitoring plan will be established to ensure the integrity of the MRA.

As the third and final bilateral arrangement regarding “Authorized Economic Operators” to be signed between Canada, the United States and Mexico, it also provides North American-wide mutual recognition of trusted trader programs.
