Canada, U.S. & Mexico agree to end surtax on steel & aluminium

The surtax imposed on steel and aluminum originating in Canada, U.S. and Mexico will no longer apply. This is expected to be implemented by Monday May 20, 2019.

Please note, however as the U.S. Section 232 tariff on steel and aluminum will likely remain in place for the other affect countries, the resulting threat of these goods flooding Canada continue. Therefore, the Safeguards currently on heavy plate and stainless steel wire are likely to continue.

See our news article Announcement on the Final Safeguard Measures for Certain Steel Goods for the latest information of the Safeguards.
