According to the Association of American Railroads (AAR) Canadian railroads reported 77,163 carloads for the week ending May 20, 2017, up 14.4 percent, and 68,175 intermodal units, up 10.5 percent compared with the same week in 2016.
For the first 20 weeks of 2017, Canadian railroads reported cumulative rail traffic volume of 2,843,485 carloads, containers and trailers, up 10.8 percent.
Carloads in the United States for the same week totaled 260,115 units, up 6.4 percent compared with the same week in 2016, while U.S. weekly intermodal volume was 274,807 containers and trailers, up 4.6 percent compared to 2016.
North American rail volume for the week ending May 20, 2017, on 13 reporting U.S., Canadian and Mexican railroads totaled 353,939 carloads, up 7.3 percent compared with the same week last year, and 354,471 intermodal units, up 5.6 percent compared with last year.
