CN Advises of Potential Strike Action Starting on May 30

Dear customers,

Axxess would like to inform you about the CN strike.

As per the message received from CIFFA :

CN is currently in negotiations with the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC), the union that represents its conductors in Canada.

The railway says the TCRC may announce the results of a strike vote in the next week, but notes that a union seeking a strike mandate from its membership is a normal part of the bargaining process. The union cannot initiate strike action without providing 72 hours’ advance notice to the company.

CN is optimistic that the company and union will reach a mutually satisfactory collective agreement without a labour disruption. If the union does, however, provide notice of its intention to strike, the TCRC will be in a legal strike position as of 00:01 hours on Tuesday, May 30.

The company acknowledges that replacing 3,000 conductors would be an enormous undertaking, and says that, if there were to be a work stoppage, it would not have enough qualified non-union personnel to run the Canadian network on its railroad. The Canadian rail operation would stop.

The U.S. network and the non-rail-terminal operations (Intermodal, Autoport, Transload) would continue with the inventory they would have on hand.

If you have any questions concerning this situation, please contact the Axxess International Freight Department.
