The progressive trade agreement application of the Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) is coming soon. As mentioned in the customs notice no. 17-30 dated from September 14, 2017, the CETA will be implemented on Thursday, September 21. From this date, it will be possible for Canadian importers to benefit from a preferential tariff eliminating customs duties on most tariff classification for products originating and exported from one of the 28 member states of the European Union.
It is worth mentioning that the preferential tariff application is conditional to the compliance of the protocol on rules of origin regulations and origin procedures as established by the CETA. This implies, among other things, the respect for specific rules of origin, the application of quotas on: agricultural products, fish and seafood products, textiles and clothing and vehicles requiring, for some, an import permit, and finally the presentation of the origin declaration duly completed.
Axxess International experts can guide you in the analysis of your products from the European Union to determine if your products are subjects to tariff elimination and if the requirements are met under the rules established by the CETA.
