This message pertains to Surtax and Tariff Rate Quotas (TRQ) on imports of certain steel goods as listed in the Order Imposing a Surtax on the Importation of Certain Steel Goods.
The purpose of this message is to inform importers that a new Customs Notice 19-08 Final Safeguard Measures Imposed on the Importation of Certain Steel Goods has been published reflecting amendments to the Order Imposing a Surtax on the Importation of Certain Steel Goods. The substantive changes are as follows:
- The following steel goods are no longer subject to TRQ or surtax:
- Concrete Reinforcing Bar
- Energy Tubular Products
- Hot-rolled Sheet
- Pre-painted Steel
- Wire rod
- The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) anticipates that provisional surtax paid of the above goods will be automatically refunded to the importers, which should be confirmed in a soon to be issued Order in Council (OIC).
Please see separate notice pertaining to changes to the Surtax and TRQ that remains applicable to steel heavy plate and stainless-steel wire.
