Global container freight index kept rising in March

The Container Throughput Index of the Rheinisch-Westfälische Institut für Wirtschaftsforschung (RWI) and the Institute of Shipping Economics and Logistics (ISL) increased by 1.5 points in March, reaching 126 points.

The Institute notes that this implies that the expansion of world trade continued regardless of the spectre of rising protectionist tendencies.

The flash-estimate for March is based on data reported by 38 ports, accounting for more or less 74% of the total index volume.
