Ottawa invests in development of West Coast maritime sector

Last Friday the Federal Government announced $2 million in funding to the Vancouver International Maritime Centre (VIMC), in order to help the organization attract international shipping companies to establish, expand or retain shipping operations on Canada’s West Coast.

VIMC provides a vital service that promotes Vancouver as the preferred global location for the international shipping market.

By marketing Canada’s strategic location and business opportunities, VIMC aims to attract up to eight regional headquarters or branch offices, $18 million in investments and approximately 200 direct and indirect professional jobs.

Vancouver is North America’s third largest port by total tonnage of goods shipped, and plays an important role as a major economic driver for Canada.
