Statistics Canada reports manufacturing sales fell 2.0% in August

Statistics Canada announced that manufacturing sales fell 2.0% to $52.4 billion in August, following three consecutive months of strong increases.

The Federal Agency notes that total manufacturing sales in August were 6.6% below February’s pre-pandemic levels.

The largest declines were in the transportation equipment (-13.7%) and plastics and rubber industries (-9.6%).

Sales of wood products were up for the fourth consecutive month, rising 12.3%, and sales in the miscellaneous industry rose for the fourth consecutive month, up 12.0%.
