Strikes Beginning to Harm Traffic at Lisbon

A series of strikes, due to last until October 8, called by the Sindicato dos Estivadores e da Actividade Logística port union in Portugal is slowly beginning to have an impact on the country’s seven main ports.


Several carriers have introduced congestion surcharges, and Maersk has suspended all services into Lisbon, diverting to Leixões, where shipments will be railed to end users in the Lisbon area.
