Tariff Elimination on Agri-Food Processing inputs

Budget 2016 announced the Government’s intention to eliminate tariffs on manufacturing inputs.

On April 23, 2016, Department of Finance has launched public consultations with an invitation to submit comments for proposed tariff elimination on certain agri-food processing inputs

The Government has revised the Canadian tariff to identify opportunities to reduce production costs and enhance competitiveness of Canadian agri-food processors in domestic and foreign markets.

Importers wishing to comment this Government consultation must do so by June 21, 2016. More information are made available on the Canada Gazette website.

Department of Finance will also accept comments on tariff items covering other industries than the agri-food processing sector that could be considered for possible further tariff elimination initiatives to assist Canadian industry.
