Canadian freight forwarders are \u201cextremely frustrated\u201d by the strikes across the country\u2019s major ports, having to re-route cargo via the U.S.<\/p>\n

Director of policy and regulatory affairs for CIFFA, Julia Kuzeljevich<\/strong>, told The Loadstar:\u00a0<\/em>\u201cBoth ports on the west coast and 40% of capacity at the port of Montreal are closed.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe railways have placed an embargo on moving containers to these locations,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

So, with employers and dockworkers on both sides of Canada in stalemate and no end in sight,\u00a0Ms Kuzeljevich said: \u201cWe are very frustrated with the lack of progress across all parties.\u201d<\/p>\n

She added that \u201cfreight will have to be diverted to functioning ports in Canada and the U.S.,\u201d but even this contingency leaves shippers and forwarders with few options \u2013 especially when considering the looming January deadline for the threat of renewed U.S. East and Gulf Coast dockworker strikes.<\/p>\n
