{"id":11265,"date":"2025-01-13T21:16:22","date_gmt":"2025-01-13T21:16:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/axxessintl.com\/alliance-reshuffle-will-increase-box-ship-shortage-as-carriers-hunt-buffers\/"},"modified":"2025-01-13T21:16:58","modified_gmt":"2025-01-13T21:16:58","slug":"alliance-reshuffle-will-increase-box-ship-shortage-as-carriers-hunt-buffers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/axxessintl.com\/en\/alliance-reshuffle-will-increase-box-ship-shortage-as-carriers-hunt-buffers\/","title":{"rendered":"Alliance Reshuffle Will Increase Box Ship Shortage as Carriers Hunt &#8216;Buffers&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">The combined capacity of the liners controlling more than 1% of the global liner fleet grew by 10.3% last year, according to Alphaliner.\u00a0<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>And, despite the carriers\u2019 relentless search for more tonnage in 2024, market demand remains strong, and the threat of overcapacity still hasn\u2019t surfaced, reflected in low vessel idling and charter availability.<\/p>\n<p>Alpahaliner noted that the charter market was short on tonnage above 3,000 teu, with vessels of 5,500 teu and above \u201cespecially limited until the summer\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>This low availability of vessels, it warned, had the potential to create further rises in charter rates.<\/p>\n<p>It also noted that\u00a0the commercially idle containership fleet ended the year \u201cwith a downtick\u201d from what was already a low number.\u00a0And over the past fortnight, Alphaliner again recorded \u201ca reduction in carrier-controlled vessel idling\u201d.
