U.S. proposals to hit Chinese vessels with high port fees would have a major impact on all firms in a container\u00a0shipping\u00a0industry in which most vessels are built in China, French-based\u00a0shipping\u00a0firm CMA CGM said on Friday.<\/span><\/p>\n

The U.S. Trade Representative\u2019s office has\u00a0proposed charging\u00a0up to $1.5 million for Chinese-built vessels entering U.S. ports as part of its investigation into China\u2019s expansion in the shipbuilding, maritime and logistics sectors.<\/p>\n

\u201cChina builds more than half of all container ships in the world, so this would have a significant effect on all\u00a0shipping\u00a0firms,\u201d Chief Financial Officer Ramon Fernandez told reporters.<\/p>\n
