Canada and China both requested World Trade Organization (WTO) dispute consultations with each other concerning the imposition of additional duties on each other’s goods.<\/p>\n
Canada is contesting Chinese measures that impose additional import duties on certain agricultural and fishery products from Canada.<\/p>\n
China is contesting the imposition by Canada of a 100 percent tariff on Chinese-made electric vehicles and a 25 percent tariff on Chinese steel and aluminum.<\/p>\n
The dispute consultations in both cases did not result in satisfactory conclusions for either party.<\/p>\n
On May 23 both countries requested that their case be heard towards the appointment of dispute resolution panels.<\/p>\n
Canada’s request was temporarily withdrawn at the last minute but China’s request was heard and will be decided upon at a later date.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
