{"id":5281,"date":"2022-08-02T15:09:33","date_gmt":"2022-08-02T15:09:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/axxessintl.com\/?p=5281"},"modified":"2022-08-02T15:09:33","modified_gmt":"2022-08-02T15:09:33","slug":"canada-and-the-u-s-initiate-cusma-consultations-of-mexicos-energy-policies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/axxessintl.com\/en\/canada-and-the-u-s-initiate-cusma-consultations-of-mexicos-energy-policies\/","title":{"rendered":"Canada and the U.S. initiate CUSMA consultations of Mexico&#8217;s energy policies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Canada and the United States both launched dispute settlement consultations under the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) with respect to Mexico&#8217;s policies in its energy sector.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The consultations relate, within several issues, to certain measures by Mexico that favor of Mexico&#8217;s state-owned electrical utility, the Comisi\u00f3n Federal de Electricidad (CFE), and state-owned oil and gas company, Petr\u00f3leos Mexicanos (PEMEX) in a manner that is detrimental to U.S. and Canadian investors and producers.<\/p>\n<p>Canada&#8217;s Minister of International Trade, Mary Ng, issued the following statement: &#8220;Canada has consistently raised its concerns regarding Mexico&#8217;s change in energy policy. We agree with the United States that these policies are inconsistent with Mexico&#8217;s CUSMA obligations.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Under CUSMA the parties shall enter into consultations within 30 days of a member country&#8217;s request, unless the parties decide otherwise.
