Ocean carriers and marine terminals would be subject to stricter \u2013 and potentially costlier \u2013 billing requirements when they charge shippers for late containers under a proposal by the U.S. Federal Maritime Commission.<\/p>\n

The FMC\u2019s\u00a058-page proposed rule<\/a> on demurrage and detention billing requirements, scheduled to be posted in the Federal Register this week, \u201cseeks to bring more clarity, structure, and punctuality\u201d to the billing practices of vessel operating common carriers (VOCCs), non-vessel-operating common carriers (NVOCCs) and marine terminal operators (MTOs), said the agency.<\/p>\n
