{"id":7868,"date":"2023-10-17T15:11:54","date_gmt":"2023-10-17T15:11:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/axxessintl.com\/?p=7868"},"modified":"2023-10-17T15:11:54","modified_gmt":"2023-10-17T15:11:54","slug":"nafta-panel-asks-u-s-to-review-key-aspects-of-duties-on-canadian-lumber","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/axxessintl.com\/en\/nafta-panel-asks-u-s-to-review-key-aspects-of-duties-on-canadian-lumber\/","title":{"rendered":"NAFTA panel asks U.S. to review key aspects of duties on Canadian lumber"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) Chapter 19 panel issued a ruling on Canada&#8217;s challenge of the Unites States Department of Commerce&#8217;s final dumping determination on Canadian softwood lumber products.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The panel directed the U.S. Department of Commerce to review key aspects of its determination.<\/p>\n<p>The NAFTA panel asked the U.S. Commerce Department for further explanations on commerce&#8217;s differential pricing methodology, its treatment of export taxes under the 2006 Softwood Lumber Agreement between Canada and the United States, and its decision on startup adjustments for a mill in northern Ontario.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In a statement issued following the panel&#8217;s ruling Canada&#8217;s Minister of International Trade, Mary Ng, said &#8220;Canada is pleased that the NAFTA dispute panel agrees that elements of the U.S. dumping determination are inconsistent with U.S. law.
