{"id":9792,"date":"2024-06-25T16:05:46","date_gmt":"2024-06-25T16:05:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/axxessintl.com\/?p=9792"},"modified":"2024-06-25T16:05:46","modified_gmt":"2024-06-25T16:05:46","slug":"cfia-implements-interim-standard-on-per-and-polyfluoroalkyl-substances-in-biosolids","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/axxessintl.com\/en\/cfia-implements-interim-standard-on-per-and-polyfluoroalkyl-substances-in-biosolids\/","title":{"rendered":"CFIA implements interim standard on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances in biosolids"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On October 18, 2024, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) will begin enforcing an interim standard for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in biosolids imported or sold in Canada as fertilizers.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Biosolids are the solid phase of municipal wastewater treatment, often re-used and applied to land as a source of nutrients and organic matter.<\/p>\n<p>The new standard is designed to mitigate the potential risks to human health and the environment associated with land application of heavily contaminated biosolids sold as commercial fertilizer.<\/p>\n<p>Enforcement of the interim standard at import and domestic levels will begin October 18, 2024.
