As of January 1, lithium-ion and sodium-ion batteries shipped with equipment must comply with updated international air transport safety standards.Requirement: maximum 30% state of charge (SoC)
- Applies to UN 3481 (Lithium Ion Batteries, PI 966) and UN 3552 (Sodium Ion Batteries, PI 977).
- Cells and batteries (Section I): lithium-ion or sodium-ion cells and batteries must be offered for transport at no more than 30% of their rated capacity.
- Cells and batteries (Section II): lithium-ion or sodium-ion cells and batteries with a watt-hour rating exceeding 2.7 Wh must be offered for transport at no more than 30% of their rated capacity.
