Air Cargo Operations to/from the Middle East and Connecting Regions
With key carriers such as Etihad, Emirates, and Qatar Airways gradually resuming limited operations through their Middle East hubs, we are beginning to see early signs of stabilization. However, capacity remains constrained, and a full return to normal operating levels is expected to take several more weeks.
These limitations have resulted in ongoing backlogs not only into the Middle East but also across trade lanes traditionally routed via Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Doha. In some cases, airlines are now booking several weeks in advance.
Additionally, many carriers are not honoring contract rate levels at this time and are requiring the use of Priority or Express services. While rates may be published, space is not guaranteed at those levels. We strongly recommend confirming availability with the Axxess team prior to booking.
Airspace across the region continues to face significant restrictions. Commercial overflight remains largely prohibited over Iraq, Syria, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Israel. Partial access is available over Qatar, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia, though conditions remain fluid and subject to change.
Fuel-related costs are also increasing. Lufthansa has announced an increase in its fuel surcharge from USD 0.35 to USD 0.85 per kg chargeable, effective March 16. Other carriers offering “all-in” pricing are expected to follow with similar adjustments in the coming days.
Air India has introduced a disruption surcharge of USD 0.22 per kg, and additional war risk surcharges may be implemented by other carriers as the situation evolves.
