Canada’s Prime Minister and the President of Indonesia issued a joint statement last weekend to welcome the substantive conclusion of negotiations for a Canada-Indonesia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with the objective of bringing CEPA into force as soon as possible.
The negotiations have resulted in a comprehensive trade agreement that addresses market access for goods, services, and investment, and includes provisions on small and medium sized enterprises, labour, environment, and women’s economic empowerment.
The comprehensive trade agreement between Canada and Indonesia is expected to facilitate new opportunities for Canadian business by:
• eliminating or reducing tariff and non-tariff barriers
• enhancing access to Southeast Asian supply chains
• establishing a more transparent and predictable environment for trade and investment
