Results published by the Canadian General Freight Index (CGFI) indicate that the Total Cost of ground transportation for Canadian Shippers increased by 1.63% in December, as compared with November.
The Base Rate Index, which excludes the impact of Accessorial Charges assessed by carriers, increased by 0.02% in December.
Average Fuel Surcharges assessed by Carriers decreased slightly in December. Fuel was 21.34% of Base Rates in December versus 21.81% in November.
“Total Freight Costs increased by 1.63% led by increases in Domestic Truckload. All segments increased this month. Base Freight costs increased by 0.02%. Overall, year over year Total Freight Costs (Domestic LTL and Domestic Truckload, Cross Border LTL & Cross Border Truckload) are above last year’s level,” said Doug Payne, President of CGFI sponsor Nulogx.
