Both the value of exports and imports of goods rose substantially in 2022. However, the rise in the value of trade was not reflected in the number of traders. The number of exporting enterprises (+0.7%) edged up to reach 48,036 in 2022, while the number of importing enterprises remained stable at 160,238.

Statistics Canada reports a merchandise trade surplus of $972 million in March

Statistics Canada announced that the country’s merchandise imports decreased 2.9% in March, while exports were down 0.7%. As a result, Canada’s merchandise trade balance with the world moved from a (revised) $487 million deficit in February to a $972 million surplus in March.
