On September 22, members of SCFP Local 4317, representing MGT’s clerical personnel, initiated a general strike. Since that time, negotiations between the parties have been ongoing, with a shared objective of reaching a fair and expedient resolution.
Despite the operational constraints posed by the labour disruption, MGT has remained fully committed to maintaining continuity of service. With strategic adjustments and a focus on operational resilience, MGT successfully sustained vessel, rail and truck operations throughout last week. Despite its reduced administrative workforce, MGT processed:
- Over 4,000 truck transactions (averaging 100 per hour)
- Approximately 70,000 feet of rail cargo
- More than 8,000 vessel movements
To accommodate anticipated increases in truck volumes this week, truck gate hours will be extended from 07:00 to 17:00, effective Monday, September 29 through Friday, October 3.
MGT’s management team is fully mobilized on site to help ensure continued service delivery, operational oversight and timely communication.
