More ocean GRIs; transpac air rates surge on final peak push

Freightos reports that GRIs have driven Asia–Europe rates up 40% since mid-October, to $2,463/FEU, and Asia–Mediterranean rates to $3,366/FEU (+56%).

On the airfreight side, the Freightos Index shows China–U.S. rates pushing beyond $7.50/kg, above last year’s peak ($7.30/kg).

For importers, this means more expensive modal switching (air) for urgent shipments, and a need to anticipate spot increases tied to GRIs and blank sailings in ocean freight.
