The Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD) published two Orders in Council amending the Automatic Firearms Country Control List (AFCCL) to formally add North Macedonia and Qatar to the list of countries that the Governor in Council deems appropriate to export prohibited firearms, prohibited weapons and prohibited devices and to which the Minister of Foreign Affairs may issue an export permit for such items.
The inclusion of North Macedonia and Qatar on the AFCCL does not guarantee that a permit will be issued for the export of these items to these two countries and all applications will remain subject to the Government of Canada’s case-by-case review process.
According to DFATD consultations were held within the Department and other Government of Canada departments and comments were received from the general public.
The consultation process took all comments into account and concluded that both countries are appropriate destinations for inclusion on the AFCCL.
