Tribunal will not conduct public interest inquiry on anti-dumping duty on wire rod

In November 2024, the Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT) received a properly documented request for a public interest inquiry from the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Egypt (Government of Egypt), regarding the Tribunal’s injury finding in NQ-2024-001 imposing anti-dumping duty on certain wire rod from Egypt (as well as from China and Vietnam).

In the commencement phase, the Tribunal had to decide whether there are reasonable grounds to commence a public interest inquiry.

The CITT has now issued it’s commencement phase decision: Pursuant to section 45 of SIMA, the Tribunal is of the opinion that there are no reasonable grounds to consider that the imposition of an anti-dumping duty, or the imposition of such a duty in the full amount provided for by SIMA, in respect of the goods referred to in the Tribunal’s finding in inquiry NQ-2024-001 would not or might not be in the public interest. Accordingly, the Tribunal will not initiate a public interest inquiry into this matter.
