The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) issued an update on the ongoing work to modernize the Saint-Bernard-de-Lacolle border crossing.
The Agency is taking advantage of the off-peak period to move forward with the reconstruction of the Primary Inspection Line as quickly and efficiently as possible.
As announced earlier this fall, the port of entry is operating with three lanes, temporarily reducing traveller processing capacity. However, due to reduced traffic flow at this time of year, these lane closures are not currently causing unusual wait times.
Renovation of the commercial Primary Inspection Line booths has resulted in a reduction in the number of lanes available, leading to some delays for commercial vehicles during peak periods. However, construction work requiring the most significant capacity reduction is planned for completion by December 11, 2025. After this date, only brief and infrequent periodic closures of commercial booths are expected during the spring and summer.
Drivers using commercial lanes are encouraged to visit the border wait times page and adjust their itinerary if necessary.
The NEXUS lane at Saint-Bernard-de-Lacolle has been suspended for the duration of construction work which is scheduled to continue until winter 2027. A new temporary dedicated NEXUS lane has been introduced at the adjacent Lacolle Route 221 border crossing, which is located approximately 10 minutes from the Saint-Bernard-de-Lacolle border crossing. This lane, accessible only to NEXUS members, will remain in service seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., until the completion of the redevelopment of the Primary Inspection Line at Saint-Bernard-de-Lacolle.
