Canada-Indonesia and Canada-ASEAN free trade talks are still progressing

Canada’s Minister of International Trade, Mary Ng, concluded a visit to Indonesia during which she met with a number of Indonesian government officials to strengthen bilateral trade talks. Minister Ng also met with Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) officials to reinforce Canada-ASEAN relations.

Canada and Indonesia launched negotiations toward a comprehensive economic partnership agreement in 2021 and will be holding the third round of negotiations the week of October 31, 2022.

Canada-Indonesia bilateral merchandise trade was valued at $4.2 billion in 2021. Indonesia is Canada’s largest export market in Southeast Asia.

Canada and ASEAN launched negotiations toward a free trade agreement in 2021 and will be holding the second round of negotiations in November 2022.

In 2021, ASEAN was Canada’s fourth-largest trading partner. Last year, Canada-ASEAN merchandise trade was valued at $31.6 billion.
