Public consultations on Canada’s ban on import of goods produced by forced labour

Canada’s Minister of International Trade and Economic Development, Mary Ng, announced the launch of public consultations on potential new measures to strengthen the enforcement of Canada’s ban on the import of goods produced by forced labour, under the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) and in alignment with the United States and Mexico.
CBSA issues final dumping & subsidizing determinations on certain pea protein from China

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) announced it terminated the dumping investigation in respect of pea protein exported from China by Shandong Jianyuan Bioengineering Co., Ltd., Yantai Shuangta Food Co., Ltd., Yantai Oriental Protein Tech Co., Ltd., and Yantai Yiyuan Biological Engineering Co., Ltd., as the goods were not dumped.
Surtax remission process for Canadian businesses importing certain Chinese goods

The federal government launched the process for Canadian businesses to request remission of surtaxes on electric vehicles (EVs) and steel and aluminum imported from China. CBSA’s new CARM system is now in operation

On Monday October 21, 2024 the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officially launched externally the CBSA Assessment and Revenue Management (CARM) system, which is now the official system to use to assess and pay duties and taxes on imported goods.

CBSA finds dumping would resume if duties expired on unitized wall modules from China

On May 13, 2024, the Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT) initiated an expiry review of its order made in July 2019 concerning the dumping and subsidizing of certain unitized wall modules originating in or exported from China.
Global maritime piracy and crime incidents at lowest level since 1994

In the first nine months of 2024, reported incidents of piracy and armed robbery fell to the lowest levels since 1994, according to the latest report by the ICC International Maritime Bureau (IMB). Despite the lowest reported incidents in three decades, IMB and its Piracy Reporting Centre warns that crew safety remains at risk.
WTO says global trade in goods is on track for a gradual recovery

Economists from the World Trade Organization (WTO) forecast that global goods trade will be up 2.7% in 2024, up slightly from the previous estimate of 2.6%.
