Cost of ground transportation for Canadian shippers increased marginally in April

Results published by the Canadian General Freight Index (CGFI) indicate that the Total Cost of ground transportation for Canadian Shippers increased by 0.49% in April from March costs.

The Base Rate Index, which excludes the impact of Accessorial Charges assessed by carriers, increased by 0.63% in April.

Average Fuel Surcharges assessed by Carriers increased in April. Fuel was 24.50% of Base Rates in April versus 24.16% in March. Last year in April, the Average Fuel Surcharge was 24.98%.

"Total Freight Costs increased 0.49% in April. Domestic Truckload increased in April while all other segments decreased. Year over year, Total Domestic LTL, Total Domestic TL, and Total Cross Border TL segments remain above the same period last year costs, while Cross Border LTL is below last year costs," said Doug Payne, President of CGFI sponsor Nulogx.
