U.S. freight transportation services index rose 0.8% in July
The U.S. Freight Transportation Services Index (TSI), which is based on the amount of freight carried by the for-hire transportation industry, rose 0.8% in July from June, rising after two months of decline, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS).
The Freight TSI increased in July due to seasonally adjusted increases in rail carloads, rail intermodal, trucking, and water while air freight and pipeline decreased.
From July 2024 to July 2025 the index fell 0.1%. The freight TSI measures the amount of freight carried by the for-hire transportation industry.
