Canadian railway's carload traffic down 2.6 percent in first week of November
According to the Association of American Railroads (AAR), Canadian railways reported 91,232 carloads for the week ending November 8, down 2.6 percent, and 69,344 intermodal units, up 65.4 percent compared with the same week in 2024.
For the first 45 weeks of 2025, Canadian railways reported cumulative rail traffic volume of 7,293,052 carloads, containers and trailers, up 2.1 percent.
North American rail volume for the week ending November 8, 2025, on 9 reporting U.S., Canadian and Mexican railways totaled 327,995 carloads, down 0.8 percent compared with the same week last year, and 351,272 intermodal units, up 0.5 percent compared with last year.
Total combined weekly rail traffic in North America was 679,267 carloads and intermodal units, down 0.1 percent. North American rail volume for the first 45 weeks of 2025 was 30,593,085 carloads and intermodal units, up 1.9 percent compared with 2024.
