Canadian shippers total ground transportation cost increased in December
Results published by the Canadian General Freight Index (CGFI) indicate that the Total Cost of ground transportation for Canadian Shippers increased by 1.15% in December from November costs.
The Base Rate Index, which excludes the impact of Accessorial Charges assessed by carriers, increased by 0.73% in December.
Average Fuel Surcharges assessed by Carriers increased in December. Fuel was 26.69% of Base Rates in December versus 25.68% in November. Last year in December, the Average Fuel Surcharge was 23.53%.
"Total Freight Costs increased 1.15% in December. Domestic Truckload, Domestic LTL and Cross Border Truckload increased in December while Cross Border LTL decreased. Year over year, Total Domestic LTL and Total Domestic TL segments remain above the same period last year costs, while Cross Border LTL and Cross Border TL continue to be below last year costs," said Doug Payne, President of CGFI sponsor Nulogx.
