Canadian shippers ground transportation costs increased in March
Results published by the Canadian General Freight Index (CGFI) indicate that the Total Cost of ground transportation for Canadian Shippers increased by 0.92% in March from February costs.
The Base Rate Index, which excludes the impact of Accessorial Charges assessed by carriers, increased by 0.36% in March.
Average Fuel Surcharges assessed by Carriers increased in March. Fuel was 28.69% of Base Rates in March versus 25.42% in February. Last year in March, the Average Fuel Surcharge was 24.16%.
"Total Freight Costs increased 0.92% in March. Domestic LTL, Cross Border Truckload and Cross Border LTL increased in March while Domestic Truckload decreased. Year over year, Total Domestic LTL and Total Domestic TL segments remain above the same period last of year costs, while Cross Border LTL and Cross Border TL continue to be below last year costs," said Doug Payne, President of CGFI sponsor Nulogx.
