Northwest Seaport's total year to date freight down as tariffs continue to impact the industry
Year to date (YTD) full exports via the Northwest Seaport Alliance (NWSA) were up 1.8% against the five-year average.
YTD volumes (international and domestic), 1,433,525 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), are down 12.4%, with full imports declining 13.9% and full exports decreasing 1.2%. June 2026 total container volume reached 262,546 TEUs, down 4.4% compared to June 2025. While full exports declined 3.2%, full imports were flat for the month.
Domestic container volumes decreased by 1.3% compared to YTD 2025. Alaska decreased 0.9%, and Hawaii volumes decreased 3.3%.
The NWSA reports that YTD June breakbulk volumes, 222,529 metric tons, increased 22.1% due to strong industrial demand. YTD June auto volumes, 138,034 units, were down 6.6% from YTD 2025 as tariffs continue to impact the industry.
