U.S. signals possible reduction of duties on Canadian softwood lumber

The U.S. Department of Commerce announced the preliminary results for the third administrative review of punitive duties imposed on Canadian softwood lumber.

With some exceptions, it appears the U.S. plans to reduce tariffs for most Canadian softwood producers from almost 18 percent to a bit over 11 percent.

Those are preliminary results and the Department of Commerce is not expected to issue final results until at least June 2022.

The U.S. Government conducts an annual review of anti-dumping and countervailing duty orders. The annual review process is similar to the process used for initial investigations, but applies only to companies that are subject to review.
