Canada’s Minister of International Trade, Mary Ng, met with Peru’s Minister of Foreign Trade, Elizabeth Galdo Marín, on the margins of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Meeting 2024 in Peru.
The two ministers issued a joint statement to mark the 15th anniversary of the Canada-Peru Free Trade Agreement as well as 80 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Since 2009, bilateral merchandise trade between the two countries has more than doubled, reaching $4.2 billion USD in 2023, with Peru being the second largest export market for Canada in Central and South America, and Canada being the fourth most important export market for Peru in the world.
Peru also joined the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and became a full member in September 2021.
