Customs Import Specialist – Montreal

Under the supervision of the Canadian Customs Director, the Import Specialist acts as an import analyst and provides high-level customer service to a portfolio of customers. He or she does the onboarding of new customers, prices and confirms customs declarations for all types of products.

Responsibilities

  • Create Vendors and Part Codes (HS Classification using the Harmonized System to classify products and commodities)
  • Release shipments by other modes of Transport if/when requested
  • Work independently as well as with all departments and Axxess offices in Canada
  • Communicate with CBSA and other Government Departments to ensure compliance and expedite clearances
  • Obtain information or required documentation from the customers, suppliers, transporters, Customs etc.
  • Pepare and verify various documents (invoices, B2, adjustments, certificates of origin, etc.)
  • Coordinate customs releases
  • Communicate confirmations of Customs Declarations (LVS and HVS)
  • Prepare PARS
  • Provide superior customer service to help maintain customer relationships

Required Skills

  • Bilingual (French and English)
  • 4 to 6 years of experience in Customs (importation, classification, rating, release)
  • CCS certification an asset
  • Good knowledge of Customs Tariff, regulations and release
  • Good knowledge of HS system and documentation required for release by all modes of transport
  • Operational productivity, work organization
  • Anticipate needs and be proactive with customers and customer service
  • Problem solving, autonomy and good judgment
  • Good communicator and ability for teamwork
  • Very good knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
