U.S. raises tariffs on imports of aluminum and steel to 50% effective June 4

The President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, has issued a new proclamation raising tariffs on steel and aluminum imports into the United States to 50 percent.
Global air cargo demand increased by 5.8 percent in April

According to data for April released by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) global air cargo total demand, measured in cargo tonne-kilometers, increased by 5.8% compared to April 2024 levels (+6.5% for international operations).
Canada’s merchandise trade deficit hits a record $7.1 billion in April

Statistics Canada announced that Canada’s merchandise exports dropped 10.8% in April, while imports fell 3.5%. As a result, Canada’s merchandise trade deficit with the world widened from $2.3 billion in March to $7.1 billion in April. This was the largest deficit on record.

CBSA concludes container chassis from Vietnam do not circumvent CITT finding

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) initiated an investigation last November respecting the alleged circumvention from Vietnam of the Canadian International Trade Tribunal’s (CITT) finding issued in February respecting the dumping and subsidizing of container chassis from China.
